Why now?

Ingrid kayaking on river with alligators in FLMy accidental discovery of what is now a nutrition revelation: The discovery of the Terra Cotta Warriors has captivated me. I am compelled by the superb craftsmanship to make each unique individual like its own real-life person. The photos were so compelling that I had to remove them from my screen saver because they shifted my focus from my work.  The warriors were unearthed by local farmers working together in the 1970s to dig a well. Terra cotta heads were a somewhat frequent finding in that region of China for at least 2 centuries prior.  Unrecognized for their significance, pieces were used to back-fill the “sink holes”.  The discoverers were different in that they kept digging. Like those farmers I’ve spent decades working in the field of nutritional medicine where I dig the soil of scientific research, looking for a wellspring of medical breakthroughs to reap a harvest good health in my patients. One day in July 2014, my mind’s shovel, like those of the Chinese farmers, made a resounding “thunk.” Here’s what had happened. Prompted by the profound world events of our day, I read the Biblical book of Revelation. I couldn’t help but be intrigued by the recent resurgence in the popularity in this 2,000 year old text.  It was there in the chapter known as the Apocalypse that my shovel “thunked.”

5 When He broke the third seal, I heard the third living creature saying, “Come.” I looked, and behold, a black horse; and he who sat on it had a pair of scales in his hand.
6 And I heard something like a voice in the center of the four living creatures saying, “A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius; and do not damage the oil and the wine.”
-Revelation 6:5-6 (New International Version)
